On
a hot and steamy afternoon, August 14th 2003, a power failure hit
New York. The city went dark, as did Toronto and sections of New
Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. The power blackout
was a result of a failure and overloading of the electrical grid.
Traffic lights went out, elevators got stuck and the subway didn't
move. Millions of people were instantly caught up in the largest
blackout in American history.
